World Blood Donor Day

World Blood Donor Day is on June 14th, which is the perfect time to help save a life by donating blood. The American Red Cross is asking all eligible blood donors to give blood throughout the summer to help make sure that there is a sufficient blood supply for everyone in need.

Summer is an especially hard time to collect enough blood to meet the need of hospital patients, since most of the schools that hold blood drives are out of session during summer and many regular donors are away on vacation, making them less available to give blood.

World Blood Donor Day aims to bring attention to the constant need for blood donors both in the summer and throughout the rest of the year. Anyone who donates blood with the Red Cross from June 8th through the 14th, will receive a limited edition Nexcare give bandage in one of the eight global inspired designs to help honor World Blood Donor Day!

Everyone is encouraged to help save up to three lives by donating blood, but especially those who have type O negative, A negative, and B negative are needed. You can make an appointment to donate blood in your local community through the Red Cross Blood Donor app, or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). You can also head down to the Contra Costa Blood Donation Center at 140 Gregory Ln., Pleasant Hill on Tuesday or Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m., or Friday and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
