Whether you’re an experienced plant master or you’re just developing your gardening skills, spring is the perfect time to work on your garden. With warmer weather and more sunlight, the season provides great conditions to grow your garden. Your garden doesn’t have to be limited to flowers. Add in some fruits and vegetables. Make sure you pick the best tomato plants and head on over to The Great Heirloom Tomato Plant Sale.

The Great Heirloom Tomato Plant Sale

When: April 16, 2017

Where: Mangini Agricultural Museum in the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Hosted at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds, this event is in its fifth year. The University of California (UC) Master Gardeners through the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources, carefully and painstakingly cultivate these special local tomato plants to sell to the community. Many of these varieties of tomatoes and other vegetable plants are local and can only be found at the Great Heirloom Tomato Plant Sale. There will be more than 70 varieties of the heirloom tomato available, that have come from across the globe.

Make sure to bring your own boxes (or wagons) to take your vegetable plants home. Each plant will be $3. The proceeds will benefit the work of the UC Master Gardener Program of Contra Costa County. Do be sure to bring cash or checks, as all other forms of payment will not be accepted.

Should you need assistance raising your tomato plants, ask a master gardener. The UC Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions to help you keep your tomato plants healthy.
